Which technique of encryption is used for the file transfer with CryptShare?

File transfer via CrypShare from the sender to the CryptShare server and from the server to the recipient is encrypted via SSL. The length of the key depends on your integrated  SSL-certificate.  Files on the CryptShare server are encrypted with an AES algorithm, 256 bit, CBC (Cypher Block Chaining)

What happens after having registered a false email-address?

If you have send files to the wrong recipient he or she will get a notification that files have been uploaded but without the password given in an extra transaction it is impossible to download files from the CryptShare server. The notification mail therefore is insignificant

Which period of time lasts one transaction via CryptShare?

<dl><dd id="irfaq_a_4_06d70" class="tx-irfaq-dynans-visible">

The duration of each file transfer transaction depends on the rate of transmission between the exchange partners and the CryptShare server as well as on the file volume and reaction/ answer of the recipient.

The file is sent directly to the CryptShare server after having it uploaded. Files are stored on the server directly after having completed the upload. The recipient immediately gets a notification mail. By downloading the file from the CryptShare server the transaction has completed.

In general file transfer via CryptShare is faster than file transfer via email as there is no other server between the CryptShare server and the recipient that processes the files.

Is a SSL-certificate required?

<dl><dd id="irfaq_a_5_06d70" class="tx-irfaq-dynans-visible">

Yes. The integration of a SSL-certificate is required for the file transfer between the sender/recipient and the CryptShare server. The certificate is not included in the product price but must be procured separately. There are no special requirements to the SSL-certificate – it can be chosen by any provider with any options.

We recommend the following:

  • Choose a provider that provides certificates signed by one of the common browsers’ Certificate Authority.
  • A list of the most popular Certificate Authorities can be seen in your browser options. Thus it is guaranteed that users of your CryptShare server will not be confronted with warnings.
  • Depending on the provider there are a number of additional options that you can order together with your SSL-certificate. For the use of CryptShare none of these additional options is required. CryptShare will run with any certificate and option but it is sufficient to choose the simplest certificate.
  • Please note, that you need a SSL-certificate for each (sub-) domain you provide. That means if you provide another website or web application you need several certificates or a so-called wildcard-certificate which covers each sub-domain of your main domain.
